Korea’s living room — stories explained by Koreans, in your language

About MARU

MARU (마루) is the raised wooden floor at the heart of a traditional Korean home — the place where family and guests sit together, eat, and talk. That is what we want this magazine to be: a living room where anyone in the world can sit down and hear how everyday Korea really works.

We are made in Korea. We write about the small things people abroad wonder about — why we eat seaweed soup on birthdays, why we pour drinks with two hands, why “Have you eaten?” is a way of saying “I care about you.” No gossip, no hype.

Every story is checked against official and reliable sources, which we list at the end of each article. If you spot a mistake, please tell us at hello@readmaru.com — we will fix it.

MARU is published in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Indonesian, with more languages to come.
