The scene
Na Hong-jin's 2026 sci-fi thriller Hope, starring Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon and shown in competition at Cannes, turned this small seaside town into Hopo Port, a fictional harbor town near the DMZ. The cast and crew spent about three months here from October 2023, filming in its real alleys, shop fronts, square and bus terminal, including the early chase scenes.

Getting there
Bukpyeong HOPE Movie Street (Namchang Village) 북평 HOPE 영화의 거리 (남창마을, 호프 촬영지)
Show this to a taxi driver북평 HOPE 영화의 거리 (남창마을, 호프 촬영지)전남광주통합특별시 해남군 북평면 달량진길 50 (남창시외버스터미널 일대)
- How to get there
- From Seoul, take an express bus from Seoul Central City Terminal (Express Bus Terminal Station, Lines 3, 7 and 9) to Haenam Bus Terminal (about 4 hr 20 min, 6 departures a day). Or take the KTX from Yongsan Station to Mokpo (about 2 hr 30 min), then a bus from Mokpo Bus Terminal to Haenam (about 1 hr, 8 a day). From Haenam, intercity buses run to Namchang Terminal in about 27 min (8 a day, 4,200 won), or a taxi takes about 25–30 min. Buses are infrequent, so check the times before you go. The last bus back to Haenam leaves Namchang at about 20:15.
- Tip
- The street opened on July 15, 2026, the day the film was released. Walking around is free. Start at the Hopo Police Station set behind the bus terminal, then follow the alien footprints to the Stella police car, the actors' murals and the Geumbok butcher-shop front with its crooked sign and bullet marks. The Stella is a look-alike lent by a local collector, not the car from the shoot. Two real restaurants whose signs appear in the film, Jinmi Sigyuk Sikdang (known for pork jumulleok) and Jangteo Gukbap, make a good lunch stop. About 400 people live in the village, so keep your voice down and stay out of private yards and homes. The old Dallyangjin fortress and Haewollu pavilion are nearby.
Checked on October 8, 2026. Hours and fees can change, so check the official site before you go. In Korea, Google Maps can’t give walking or driving directions — Naver Map or Kakao Map work best.
