How to get there
Take an intercity bus from Seoul Nambu Terminal to Gohyeon Bus Terminal in Geoje (about 4 hr 20 min). From Gohyeon, city bus 53 toward Hongpo (홍포) runs about six times a day; get off at Geunpo (근포) or Geunpo Seonchang (근포선창) and walk 5–10 minutes through the village to the shore. Check bus times in Naver Map or KakaoMap. A taxi from Gohyeon takes about 50 minutes to 1 hour. Cars can't reach the tunnels, so drivers park near Geunpo port and walk in. Search 근포땅굴.
Hours
Open all year with no closing day, but Geoje City asks visitors not to go in after sunset for safety. Photos inside are limited to about 3 minutes per group when people are waiting.
Admission
Free entry, and the village car park is free and roomy. From there, follow the fish-shaped floor paintings and signs for a 5-6 minute walk to the tunnels.
Tip
No ticket needed. There are about five tunnels, dug by the Japanese military from 1941 and left unfinished in 1945. The classic shot is taken from inside, looking out, with your silhouette framed against the sea; it looks best at sunset or after rain, when puddles reflect the opening. Weekends can bring a line, so plan your pose and keep it short. The floor is wet and uneven: wear sneakers and head back before dark. This is a working fishing village, so keep your voice down and stay out of any tunnel or yard that is closed off.
Plan your visit
Give yourself about an hour here including the walk and a short wait. The road from central Geoje winds through many S-curves and takes around 40 minutes, so take motion-sickness care. Public restrooms, benches and a swing sit right in front of the tunnels, and the ferry terminal for Jangsado Island is just over 10 minutes away on foot, so the two pair well in one trip.
